Healthy Schools
At Vallis nurturing children’s awareness of how to value and care for themselves and live a healthy lifestyle is at the heart of everything we do. Fresh fruit snacks are delivered daily to the school for pupils in EYFS and KS1 and healthy choices are encouraged for packed lunches. To promote activity and movement, every class has at least two sessions of PE a week – we offer a range of after school sports clubs and pupils have access to our Play Pods. By participating in Frome’s Travel Challenge for the past few years we have raised the profile of healthy journeys to school and were delighted to win a scooter rack as a part of this enabling scooters and bikes to be safely stored during the school day.
School Travel Challenge
Each year we participate in the School Travel Challenge which is organised by Frome Town Council. This year we had an amazing time and we had a huge number of children walking, cycling and scooting to school! We worked with the council to make a map showing a ‘park and stride zone’ around our school to encourage everyone to travel on foot when close to the school.
A Message From Frome Town Council
Walking and cycling levels have increased dramatically during lockdown and as a result we have been getting more exercise, breathing cleaner air and experiencing safer streets. Please help us to continue contributing to cleaner air and healthier lifestyles by travelling actively such as walking, scooting or cycling to school. We have created a park and stride map showing a 5 minute car free zone around your school. If you can’t travel actively for the whole journey then please park outside the 5 minute zone and walk the remaining distance.
