Welcome to Vallis First School

Are you interested in becoming a School Governor?

Do you

  • want to get involved in your local community?
  • enjoy seeing staff and children progress and develop?
  • want to spend some of your free time doing something rewarding?

We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to donate their time to help improve the outcomes of children in the school.

The purpose of governance is to provide confident, strategic leadership to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance. This means contributing in regular meetings to discuss and agree the direction of the school and monitoring its performance.

It is a vital role, that does involve commitment in terms of giving up your free time to be in school and attend the meetings (which normally take place in the evening). Being a governor also involves spending time with the staff and children to help you understand the school and the way it works so you and the school get the best out of the role.

Advantages  of becoming a governor

It is a great way to:

  • gain experience that mght not be offered in your working role;
  • develop transferable skills for your own personal and professional development
  • support schools to raise the aspirations and educational outcomes for children and young people.

How can you get involved?

You do not need any experience or qualifications for this role and your personal experiences, whatever they are, will allow you to add value to the school and will help to ensure that our school has a governing body which is as diverse and inclusive as possible, whilst being representative of the community we serve.

If you feel you have the experience or the skills or know someone who would be suitable, please get in touch with our Headteacher or Chair of Governors to find out more using the email address below.
